The Back Slot refers to one of the 19 Equipment Slots on the Paperdoll. Items used in the Back Slot are mostly Quivers and Cloaks.
The Back Slot equipment choice in the early days of the game was quite simple: a cloak or nothing. While the pre-Age of Shadows, charge-based item properties applied to cloaks, other than that they were worn for looks.
Quivers did not exist until the Ultima Online: Mondain's Legacy expansion in 2005. Prior to their introduction, Archers simply carried ammunition in their Backpack. At one point, the UO development team refered to the inclusion of quivers a mistake. At the time, they argued that they made archers too powerful. Archers were subsequently nerfed, but we got to keep quivers.
