The term Sosaria has been used in various ways throughout the Ultima saga, single-player games and UO.

The fact that "Sosaria" and "Britannia" are sometimes used interchangeably, and even aside from that, the term "Sosaria" even when used independently is used in at least two different ways, causes a considerable amount of confusion. It's difficult to try to explain things without adding to the confusion instead of alleviating it.

In UO, the term "Sosaria" is most commonly used in one of the following ways.

  • To refer to every map in the game.

By this definition, the Tokuno Islands, the Lost Lands, Ilshenar, etc., are all considered "Sosaria." Use in a sentence could be: "The best thing about UO is that Sosaria has so many very different places."

This definition is similar to the way the term "Sosaria" was most commonly used in the Ultima single-player games. Use in a sentence could be: "I started today's hunting in Sosaria, specifically at the Demon Temple, then I eventually drifted to Malas."
