The Stygian Abyss Dungeon is a very large dungeon, and effectively "bridges" Britannia to Ter Mur, the Gargoyle realm. It contains many types of monsters. The map and general "feel" of the Stygian Abyss are modeled after the Stygian Abyss from Ultima lore (see Ultima Prime).

Most of the dungeon uses the Trammel rules set, but it contains two Champion Spawns that use the Felucca rule set. There are also several Mini-Champs scattered around the dungeon.

Lore

The Slasher of Veils awaits. Its prison weakening, it senses the coming victims - the curious, the adventurous, the heroes - the fools. Designed as the largest dungeon in the Ultima Online universe, the Stygian Abyss is host to new legions of creatures set on delivering their own form of vicious and terminal "justice."

Areas of the Abyss will be Player vs. Player, serving as battlezones where players are set against the denizens of the Abyss and other adventurers alike. Expect new boss monsters of unparalleled difficulty including the Medusa, Primeval Lich, and the Stygian Dragon.

Gaining Entrance

There are two paths into the Abyss. One is from Britannia, and involves the Underworld. The other is from Ter Mur, is aimed primarily at Gargoyles, and is through the Tomb of Kings.

The Underworld Path

First you need 2 Acid Sacs from Acid Slugs (brown, not Congealed Slug Acid). Then you need to find the 2 hidden rooms blocked by vines. Use the acid on the vines to make the door accessible. The first room is just in the west room from acid slugs.

Hit the lever to raise the globe and reveal the key. Double-click key to get one.

Now the second room is northwest. Go through the slugs and winding passages to the undead room. There are two teleporters in this big room, you want to use the north one. You drop in an area with a Greater Poison Elemental. You can find the second vine room here. Raise the globe and get the key.

Now you need to go to the Ankh room. Go through the red gate and kill Tyball's Shadow. This part is the toughest.

Once you have all 3, double-click any to gain access to the Stygian Abyss stair.

The Tomb of Kings Path

The Tomb of Kings Path involves receiving the Sacred Quest by visiting the Shrine of Singularity. The Shrine is accessible to Humans and Elves by using Teleport spell instead of flying.

  • Accessing the Abyss this way is ideal for under powered or new characters of any race.
