Interesting fact: If you brush some dust off a corpse and grind it just a little finer... You get one of the most explosive substances known to man.

Alchemists in Ultima Online do not turn lead into gold; instead, they create magic potions. High level Alchemists can learn Glassblowing, and with Alchemy Recipes, craft 3 special potions and 1 decorative item.

As your skill improves you gain an Enhance Potions bonus of 1% for every 3.3 skill points achieved (30% at 99). This is on top of any bonus given by your equipment and hence not subject to your equipment cap (granting you a maximum benefit of 80%). Since Publish 73, the skill also ensures you always have an effective Enhance Potions value of at least your Alchemy skill divided by 2, regardless of your worn equipment.

Trained alchemists can identify the contents of Potion Kegs by removing a potion from them. Once checked in this way, the potion type becomes visible to all players.

Training
You will need dozens of empty Potion Kegs, hundreds of Mortar and Pestles, an Empty Bottle, and these reagents:
* 2,500 Black Pearl
* 2,500 Blood Moss
* 5,000 Mandrake Root
* 10,000 Ginseng
* 20,000 Garlic
* 14,000 Grave Dust

When you make your first potion, dump it into an empty Potion Keg located in your backpack by dropping the potion on it. Each subsequent potion of that kind made after that will automatically be added to that keg. Click Make Max on the specific potion's description page to make the Max number of potions automatically. Once the keg is full, your bottles will be filled as well. Grab a new empty keg, and dump the potions into the new keg, and keep filling kegs this way until you reach the next level of potions to make. Having a Crystal Ball of Knowledge will help you to achieve optimal skill gain.

* 0 - 30: Train at NPC Alchemist.
* 30 - 45: Agility Potion.
* 45 - 55: Strength Potion.
* 55 - 65: Greater Agility Potion.
* 65 - 75: Greater Strength Potion.
* 75 - 85: Greater Heal Potion.
* 85 - 95: Greater Cure Potion.
* 95 - 100: Greater Conflagration Potion.

For a power gaming technique to train this skill see Satyr Trick

Excess Greater Heal, Greater Cure, Greater Strength and Greater Poison potions have a market with players into Gardening as those potions are used with growing plants.
Enhance Potions is an item property commonly found on jewelry. When a potion is used, its effectiveness will increase by the percentage of your cumulative Enhance Potions properties. Healing potions heal more points of damage, curing potions have a better chance to cure poison, etc. There is a cumulative equipment cap of 50%. If your character has the Alchemy skill, an additional 1% bonus per 3.3 skill is granted, up to +30% at 99.0 Alchemy.

Since Publish 73, having the Alchemy skill also provides a minimum total Enhance Potions value equal to the skill divided by 2. The total Enhance Potions value for a character then becomes:

Effective EP = (Equipment EP (capped at 50) + Alchemy / 3.3) -or- Alchemy / 2 if it is higher.

Rings and Bracelets can have between 5% and 35% Enhance Potions, in increments of 5.
Items
Here is a list of artifacts and other items which may break the individual item cap.
* Alchemist's Bauble - 30% Bracelet
* Ecru Citrine Rings - 50% Ring
* Treatise on Alchemy - 15% Talisman
* Royal Guard Survival Knife - 25% Skinning Knife

Imbuing
The following resources are required to imbue the highest intensity of Enhance Potions (25%):
*5 Enchanted Essence
*10 Citrine
*10 Crushed Glass

__NOTOC__
Overview
A Parrot is a special type of pet that is more like a house add-on than a travelling or fighting companion.
Unlike normal pets, Parrots are Yellow NPCs and thus indestructible. They do not have any bonding time and any player can own a Parrot, there are no skill requirements. Once a Parrot is acquired, a Parrot Perch is needed for the parrot to live on, without which it remains an inert item. Once attached to the Perch, a Parrot cannot be removed, although the Perch and Parrot can be returned to Deed form by using an axe upon it. When in deed form, the name and age of the Parrot may be seen, but importantly the colour of the Parrot no longer can.

You may also use Parrot Wafers to feed it, although this is voluntary and only for fun. Carpenters can make perches, while Wafers can be obtained from Cooks.

Types
Parrots can be found as rare loot drops on monsters that debuted with Mondain's Legacy.

The Hue Finder for Pinco's UI doesn't currently pick up Parrots when on a perch (it samples the perch colour instead), but copy and paste the Colour Finder Macro into the Enhanced Client and you can tell which Parrots you have; the colour code is listed in brackets.

If when sampling the colour you get a result differing from the values above, you've sampled the perch instead; (0000) is the default colour for standard wooden perches...

Parrot Talking
Parrots like to talk. They like to talk a lot. If you have a conversation in a house that has a Parrot, they will randomly decide to repeat the last sentence they heard from a Player in Local chat. And if you have more than one Parrot, they may all choose to repeat the same line. This quickly makes it hard if you wish to keep a conversation private, because a Parrot will repeat what you say even if you're on a different floor to it, and everyone close enough can see what the Parrot says. The easiest work around if you can't bear to be without your feathered friends is to have the people talking at home to move to Party or other Global chat so it can't hear you.

Player character Cooks can make a light green food called Parrot Wafers, found in the preparations section of the cooking menu - and if fed to a Parrot it will say something from a pre-selected list of phrases (i.e. you can't teach your Parrot what to say). The Wafer will also turn the Parrot to face the direction of the Player who fed it, allowing you to change how they are displayed.

Age
Parrots begin to show their ages, in weeks, after one week of being on a Perch. Axing their perch to move it doesn't affect the parrot's age; so if your parrot is a week old, moving the Perch or selling the parrot on the Perch on a vendor will not affect the one week tag, but nor will it age whilst in Deed form. As there isn't a way to take a Parrot off a perch, make sure you use a wood color you'll be happy with in any setting (oak and normal wood will probably work best) when you make one. The Deed of the Perch, and Perch & Parrot will take the colour of the wood the Perch was made from, but not as mentioned show the colour of the Parrot even when on a vendor.

Naming Your Parrot
To name your Parrot, simply drag its health bar out like any other pet, click the name area once and type a name in. Under the Pinco UI, you may also use the text command to name a Parrot as you would a Pet, due to the way they are considered Mobiles.
The Darkwood Chest is a Woodland Chest and also one of the Craftable Artifacts. It does not, however, require a Carpentry Recipe scroll.

Although weak on it's own, when combined with the other Darkwood armor pieces it completes the Warrior Armor Set. This was introduced along with several other Item Sets by the Mondain's Legacy expansion.

Craftable Artifacts such as this require very high levels of skill to create. Talismans can tip the odds in your favour - you'll want as much help as you can get, considering that failure could potentially destroy valuable ingredients (which are mostly acquired via lengthy battles against Peerless bosses).

These parts retain the colour of the material used (and can be dyed with Pigments of Tokuno), but change hue when the entire set is equipped.

Craftable Artifacts cannot have additional Item Properties added using Runic Tools, nor can they typically receive Exceptional bonuses. Their maximum Durability can be increased to 255 via Powder of Fortifying.

These particular items will gain material bonuses depending on the type of Wood you use. Heartwood allows you to boost all the total resistance levels of the suit to at least 70.

Each individual armor piece has the same modifiers (aside from material bonuses). When completely assembled, the total armor modifiers are:

* Physical Resist: 60
* Fire Resist: 60
The Darkwood Gorget is a Woodland Gorget and also one of the Craftable Artifacts.

* Physical Resist: 60
* Fire Resist: 60
The Gauntlets of Valor are the Gloves of the Virtue Armor Set, introduced as an 8th Anniversary gift. They are dedicated to UO's first year, September 1997 to September 1998. You can use an 8th Anniversary Token to claim them, or, as of the 9th Anniversary, Heritage Tokens as well. As of the 10th Anniversary they furthermore drop as a Virtue Artifact.
Notes
Virtue armor starts out dyed - when the complete set is worn, the "tarnish" is removed and it takes on it's true appearance. While it's possible to apply Pigments of Tokuno, this will also be cleansed when you equip the full set.

Removing a piece of the armor restores the effects of any dyes. They can be permanently removed via Bleach.
