Lobster Traps are used to catch Lobsters and Crabs. They can be bought from crab fisher Npcs. You can gain Fishing skill by using lobster traps. It is not clear yet whether having high Fishing alters your catch.
Using
Sail out to an area you wish to trap in. A bigger ship is easier to trap with as you can place up to a dozen traps without having to move.
* Double-click a lobster trap and target the water next to your ship. The trap shouldn't be too far away:

::The trap is too cumbersome to deploy that far away.

:or too close to other traps:

::This location is too close to another trap.

one tile around the buoy must be free of other buoys.
* The trap will disappear from your backpack and a buoy will mark the location you placed it at
* After a minute or two you can haul in the trap by double-clicking the buoy
* Double-click the trap to have its contents placed into your backpack:
:You remove lobster from the trap and put it in your pack.
* If you haul in the trap too quickly it will be empty
* The longer you leave the trap out the more you will catch
* There is a chance the trap buoy will disappear with a splash, destroying the trap
* Only the person who placed the trap can pick it out of the water in Trammel; yet it is possible for players in your party to pick the trap out in Trammel which makes for good ways to work as a team.
* Hauling in a trap while hidden will reveal you.

Nero Blackraven: /* See Also */

__NOTOC__
This page lists the new Artifact drops added in Publish 57 for all Champion Spawns. This page has been updated frequently as more items are discovered - feel free to add your own findings!

Most of the useful Champion Spawn Artifacts ("equipment") are referred to as Replicas, because they are near copies of items handed out at Event Moderator events, with the word "replica" in the name to differentiate them from the originals. Some items do not match their counterparts exactly, perhaps having different intensity bonuses or Durability stats. No Replicas have the Self Repair property regardless of whether the originals did or not, and Powder of Fortifying cannot be used on them.

Most non-Replica Champion Spawn Artifacts are decorative in nature.

Confusingly, the Stygian Abyss expansion introduced a number of useful Champion Spawn Artifacts that were not Replicas, as rewards for doing the new Champion Spawns, yet also added new Replicas.

Champions
There is a 30% chance that a Champion Boss will drop any of the following. Out of that 30, there is a 5% the drop will be unique, 10% the drop will be a shared item and a 15% chance the drop will be a decoration. The items appear directly in your Backpack and do not need to be looted from the corpse of the dead champ.

Your chance of receiving an artifact is supposedly based not only on how much damage you did to the champ, but also on how much damage you did over the course of the spawn overall. In theory, players who turn up solely to battle the champion at the end of the fight have only a minor chance of receiving a reward. The damage counter for a given character resets when the champion of the current spawn dies. If you do not have enough room in your pack for the reward, or are not in the spawn zone when the champion dies, then you will forfeit your chance of receiving an artifact.
The following is a list of changes deployed as Publish 60 on September 8, 2009 and marks the launch of the Stygian Abyss expansion.

Deployment History
* September 8, 2009 - Published to all shards.

Launch Message
The Ultima Online team would like to dedicate this, the sixtieth Cycle of Knowledge, containing the Stygian Abyss and all its related mysteries, to our loyal friends and fellow citizens of Britannia. -- Chrissay Zeeman

New Skill: Imbuing
*Skill Title: Artificer
*The Imbuing skill allows players to imbue items with magical item properties. The amount of skill determines how much of an item’s potential is “fillable” by that craftsman.
*Imbuing is performed at a soul forge. The soul forge in the Gargoyle City gives a slight bonus, and the Queen's soul forge gives the highest bonus.
*Many magical items (weapons, armor, etc) can be “unraveled” to produce a set of imbuing basic ingredients (Magical Residue, Enchanted Essence, and Relic Fragments)
*Various jewels are used for individual item properties, up to a certain amount of intensity
*Special ingredients added as rare drops in Ter Mur and the Abyss are used for high level intensities
*Imbued equipment can only be used with the expansion entitlement

New Skill: Mysticism
*Skill Title: Mystic
*Passive Gargoyle Ability (30% base proficiency in Mysticism)
*Uses the following reagents:
**Bone
**Dragon blood
**Fertile dirt
**Demon bone
**Black Pearl
**Blood Moss
**Garlic
**Ginseng
**Mandrake
**Nightshade
**Sulfurous Ash
**Spider Silk

Spells
*Nether Bolt: Fires a bolt of nether energy at the Target, dealing chaos damage
*Healing Stone: Conjures a Healing Stone that will instantly heal the Caster when used.
*Purge Magic: Attempts to remove a beneficial ward from the Target, chosen randomly
*Enchant: Temporarily enchants a weapon with a hit spell effect chosen by the Caster. If the Caster's Imbuing and Mysticism skills are greater than 80, the Caster may hold the weapon while casting Magery or Mysticism spells.
*Sleep: Puts the Target into a temporary Sleep state. In this state, a Slept Target will be unable to attack or cast spells, and will move at a much slower speed. A Slept Target will awaken if harmed or after a set amount of time.
*Eagle Strike: Conjures a magical eagle that assaults the Target with its talons, dealing energy damage.
*Animated Weapon: Conjures and animates a weapon that selects a Target to attack based off its combat strength and proximity.
*Stone Form: Infuses the Caster with the essence of solid stone, giving a bonus to physical attacks and damage resistance, but reducing the Caster's movement, spell casting, and attack speed. The Stone Form may neutralize poison, strangle, bleed, sleep, paralysis, and stat reduction effects.
*Spell Trigger: Allows the Caster to store a Mysticism spell in a Spell Stone. When the Caster uses the Spell Stone, the stored spell is instantly cast.
*Mass Sleep: Puts one or more Targets within a radius around the Target's Location into a temporary Sleep state.
*Cleansing Winds: Soothing winds attempt to neutralize poisons, lift curses, and heal a valid Target.
*Bombard: Hurls a magical boulder at the Target, dealing physical damage. This spell also has a chance to knockback and stun a player Target.
*Spell Plague: Inflicts a terrible curse on one or more Targets in its area of effect. Each time a Spell Plagued Target hits with a harmful attack or spell, the Target may suffer a backlash of fire damage.
*Hail Storm: Summons a storm of hailstones that strikes all Targets within a radius around the Target's Location, dealing cold damage.
*Nether Cyclone: Summons a gale of lethal winds that strikes all Targets within a radius around the Target's Location, dealing chaos damage. In addition to inflicting damage, each Target of the Nether Cyclone temporarily loses a percentage of mana and stamina.
*Rising Colossus: Summons a colossal stone titan that selects a Target to attack based off its intelligence and proximity.

New Skill: Throwing
*Skill Title: Bladeweaving
*Passive Gargoyle Ability: Deadly Aim (20% base proficiency in Throwing)
*Added two new special moves
**Infused Throw: The player infuses their throwing projectile with mystical power. The infused projectile will dismount the target if possible; otherwise it will temporarily stun the target. The target will be hit with chaos damage regardless of whether they were dismounted or paralyzed.
**Mystic Arc: The thrower augments the spinning of their projectile with mystic force causing it to strike a second target after first hitting the primary target. Some of the energy used to increase the projectiles spin is transferred to each target causing additional energy damage.
*Weapons have a base range that is increased according to the player’s strength
**Boomerang: 4 min, 7 max
**Cyclone: 6 min, 9 max
**Soul Glaive: 8 min, 11 max
*Distance from target affects the damage and accuracy of the thrown weapon – there is a sweet spot of range and power that deals more effective damage
**This is calculated as Hit Chance penalties and Damage Reduction
*Close Quarters Combat: Being too close to a target would normally cause ineffective throws. However, Swordsmanship skill can compensate for this, with Legendary skill even giving a slight bonus.
*Shield Penalties: All throwing weapons are one-handed, and thus Gargoyles can equip shields.
**Causes Hit Chance and Defense Reduction penalties while holding a shield. This penalty is reduced by your skill in parrying.
*Concussion Blow: The existing Concussion Blow special move has been updated to have the following behavior:
**10 direct damage
**Temporarily drains 50% of the target’s mana, restored after 6 seconds
**Target becomes temporarily immune to this drain effect if it happens too often to them

Gargoyle Flight
*Ter Mur Gargoyles can fly, which allows them to move at mounted speed (although they cannot ride mounts in exchange)
*Gargoyles can cross specially marked “flight tiles” in Ter Mur and the Abyss dungeons, allowing the access to special areas and shortcuts
*Gargoyles have access to a spanning “High Way” across Ter Mur, which allows them to fly directly to distant areas
*Flight and Fury: The Stygian Dragon can freely fly around the arena, either to escape or track its victims without mercy
*Crimson Meteor: Rains fireballs down on the arena, creating AoE firefields
*Stygian Fireball: A combination of void energy that rushes as multiple streaks of crackling energy towards a target
*Special moves: Bladeweave and Talon Strike

Instancing and Queues
*The two new boss encounters, Medusa and the Stygian Dragon, have an instancing and queuing system tied to their battle arenas
*Players gather “keys” near the lairs, and then sacrifice them on the altars inside
*If an instance is available, their party will have access to a moongate allowing them in
*If all instances are full, their party will be queued, and will be offered a chance to join the next available instance (regardless of where they are in the dungeon, but they *must* remain in the Abyss)
**This queueing will only queue for the party members partied at the time of registration.
**Queued party members who leave the party (or all of them if the party is dissolved) will still be allowed to participate when their turn comes
*Instances last for two hours, with a fifteen minute timer added to the end of a successful fight in order to provide time for looting
*Resurrection shrines are available in each instance
*Players will be warned when leaving an instance that they cannot return
*Players who log out during an instance will only be removed from the instance if they log out longer than the normal grace period (10 minutes)

Champion Spawns
*Two new Champion Spawns: The Primeval Lich and the Abyssal Infernal
*Trammel ruleset entrances inside the Stygian Abyss dungeon, Felucca ruleset entrances in various Felucca dungeons
*Include special decoration and interactive elements that evolve as the champ progresses

Primeval Lich
*Howl of the Lich: A howl so powerful it creates a cold blast radius causing cold damage to all players and their pets.
*Creeping Death: Occasionally, the Primeval Lich will call creatures of the darkness to his aid.
**Up to six lightning strikes will randomly assault players and pets within a 15 tile radius of the Lich
**A shadow dweller will spawn at each point near the impact of those lightning strikes and attack players and pets within range
*Unholy Touch: The Lich's touch will occasionally corrupt the player's soul, temporarily draining some of his skills and attributes
*Teleport Taunt: The Lich should taunt players out of attack range when they attack the lich with ranged weapons or magic.

Abyssal Infernal
*Fiendish Calling: Summons weak versions of Elementals in small groups (5% chance)
*Meteors: Calls down the fury of burning meteors to devastate the battlefield in a raw display of power
*Condemnation: Condemns players to the Pit by teleporting them to one of the 5 lava pits around in lair, temporarily stunning them and doing continuous damage
*Mark of One: Greatly reduces the targets HP

Mini-Champs
*Sets of layered spawn areas within the Stygian Abyss dungeon
*Composed of two to three layers of monsters (in increasing levels of difficulty), with a final monster called a [Renowned]
*Renowned mobs are upgraded versions of one of the mobs from that spawn, with a few new creatures
*Each mini-champ drops an imbuing ingredient of Gargoyle virtue/principle essences
*Layout:
**Lava Caldera
**Skeletal Dragon
**Enslaved Goblins
**Fire Temple Ruins
**The Secret Garden
**The Lands of the Lich
**Passage of Tears
**Abyssal Lair Entrance
*Unique creatures:
**Fire Daemons
**Skeletal Lich
**Forgotten Servants
**Enslaved Goblins

Mini-Bosses
Niporailem
*Found hidden in the Tomb of Kings
*Vengeful Curse: Summons spectral armor to defend the tomb
*Fool’s Gold: Throws overweighted gold piles directly into the player’s pack, overweighting them. The gold becomes a nuisance very quickly, and turns to sand upon being tossed to the ground
*Special Moves: Strangle

Navrey Night-Eyes
*Found in her nest in the Underworld dungeon
*Navrey’s Web: Surrounds the player in webbing that performs an unbreakable stun-paralysis. Webbing can be removed through a special quest item, or by waiting it out.
*The lair has a special set of pillars, that when activated all at once causes a rock collapse above Navrey, crushing her and any nearby players and mobs for a short time

Loyalty
Overview
*Adding a new loyalty system that can store the player’s relationship with various factions in the game
*Some game mechanics will require Loyalty, such as house placement in Ter Mur
*Adding the first Loyalty group: Gargoyle Queen
*Loyalty status can be accessed from the player’s context menu
*Loyalty can be gained through completing quests or defeating mobs in Ter Mur and the Abyss dungeons
*Every mob that gives loyalty has a set amount it will give to the top attacker. Lesser attackers will receive a smaller portion, but this won’t take away from the amount anyone else gets

Gargoyle Queen’s Loyalty
*Point layouts:
**Below 0: Enemy
**0 – 1999: Friend
**2000 – 9999: Citizen
**10000: Noble
*House placement in Ter Mur required “Noble” status
*Using the Soul Forge in the Queen’s Palace also requires “Noble” status
**This soul forge has a significant bonus
*All new Gargoyle characters begin as “Citizens”

Housing
*The Gargoyle Queen rewards her nobility with plots of land in her kingdom. The initial set of housing plots are located to the southeast of the Royal City
*House placement requires “Noble” status in Ter Mur, but not the Abyss dungeons
*There are reserved house plots inside the Abyss that cannot yet be placed at, but won’t require Loyalty when they can be

Moongates
* Moongates will not link to Ter Mur until a special event occurs in-game
*A new moongate has been created southeast of the Royal City which links to the normal moongate system. Will be made available during a special event

The following is a list of changes deployed as Publish 60 on September 8, 2009 and marks the launch of the Stygian Abyss expansion.

Deployment History
* September 8, 2009 - Published to all shards.

Chief Paroxysmus is a Peerless found in the Palace of Paroxysmus dungeon introduced with the Mondain's Legacy expansion. It appears to be based on the grotesque crime lord Jabba the Hutt, from the Star Wars films. It "eats" pets and summoned creatures, thus restoring itself to full health almost instantly, even from near death. It leans heavily on poison-based attacks.

:A gigantic king, ruling from the underworld has returned to the surface bringing the four D's with it - Death, disease, disruption and disillusionment. His breath kills all flora and fauna in his wake. His skin leaks poison, his heart is pure ice. Everything in his path dies.
* He summons his targets to him on a regular basis.

* He "eats" summons and pets, refreshing him to full health even from being near death. This can include mounts when you dismount or die.

* His melee attacks seem to often poison the target.

* He is found at first with three other creatures that are smaller, and less dangerous, versions of himself.

Strategy
* Conventional wisdom holds that cross-healing melee fighters are best. All character types are equally subject to frequent poisoning from the area poison effect, and ranged characters suffer from being forced into melee combat by the special 'teleport to him' ability and then killed by powerful melee attacks. Cross-healing allows the poison to be cured quickly and easily using bandages. And of course the teleporting won't bother melee characters either.

* DON'T take pets (for reasons above). You're a tamer? Leave Rover at home and stick to supporting/healing your group-mates.

* Ethereal mounts are OK (and useful for keeping away from this slow mover) because they aren't around to be eaten when you are dead/dismounted. Chargers of the fallen are also OK. A normal mount can work if a) you don't die (luckily Paroxysmus has no dismount attack), or b) when you die, <I>while still dead</I> you log out and back in very quickly, causing your pet to hopefully disappear before being eaten. However, if you get <I>disconnected</I>, say goodbye to all that damage you did.

* Archers can work, but not by doing the normal "archer dance". Stay closer than you normally would, lest he teleport you to him and break you in half.

* Mages doing direct damage can be useful, but mostly mages should stick to healing the melee fighters. If you are safely high on hp, try not to panic when you are hit by the poison effect. Break the golden rule of first-aid: cure those who need it most first (instead of yourself). Mages are best used to cast arch cure on the group while the dexxers are cross healing. This allows for the bandies that go off to healing dmg rather than the posion. Have one mage on the opposite side of the island as a rez station if you have enough people in your party.

* Provocation can be useful at the beginning (with max skill and a slayer/exceptional instrument) to force Paroxysmus into fights with his helpers.

* Mages can also hit and run with explosion, and keep Fire Fields/Energy Fields up.

* Compared to the special abilities of other bosses, like the Monstrous Interred Grizzle's slowing effect, the area poison isn't that bad - you can pretty much negate it just by taking a lot of greater cure potions.

Keys
* Corrosive Slimes have the skull, torso, and legs. The most effective method for gathering these "smaller" keys is to send down a pair of stealthers to "whack and hide" the corrosive slimes. You can also hunt corrosive slimes in the upper part of the dungeon where it is not too dangerous, near the entrance. You usually have to kill a lot of slimes to get all 3 keys. Each time you kill a slime, your weapon will decrease in durability, so you might want to take a spare weapon for slime killing - or use pets/summons to do the dirty work.

* Putrifier Spleen from Putrefier. This tough monster goes down easily with a tamer and a bard. This key is tiny, and a dark red colour, so it is rather hard to see.

* The keys are dropped into a cauldron found on the far eastern end of the dungeon, just past the point at which the rivers of acid become instant death instead of merely damaging.

* The keys are exchanged for an ointment which when double clicked can be rubbed on your body, thus preventing you from the instant death of the lake of acid, and enabling you to walk across and enter the Chief's Island.

“Shhh! Quit pointing at me! I’m being stealthy!”

The shadows of Britannia grow long, and may offer safety and cover to those with skill in Stealth. The person skilled in the ways of Stealth may learn to hide his movements.

This skill also counts towards your ability to perform Special Moves.

Using
To use the Stealth skill to move silently throughout the lands:
* Dismount if you are mounted.
* Hide by either using the Hiding skill, having the magery spell Invisibility cast on you, or drinking an Invisibility Potion. This may also be done with using a smoke ball which requires Ninjitsu and Hiding.
* Once you have hidden successfully, activate Stealth and you will be able to move a distance dependent on your skill. If you have 25 points or more you can automatically activate Stealth by walking a step while hidden.

If successful, you can walk a small distance while remaining hidden. Your character appears gray to you as long as you remain unseen. Any act that would normally reveal you from Hiding (other then moving) also reveals you while using the Stealth skill.

The number of steps your character can take while using the Stealth skill is equal to your Stealth score divided by 5. So, if your Stealth skill is at 80, you will be able to take 16 steps before the next skill check. So long as you continue to succeed at stealthing you will remain hidden over any distance.

Although you may run once you have started to stealth, every step will count as two. If you are still running when you reach your next skill check you will be revealed.

Because stealthy movement requires a knowledge of hiding and moving within shadows, you must be very skilled in the art of hiding before you find success at stealthy movement. To begin learning Stealth, you must have a Hiding skill of 60 or greater.

Stealthing becomes harder as you equip heavier equipment. Leather or Mage Armor is typically best if you want a high chance of success.

Training
* 0 - 30 - Train at NPC Thief Guildmaster
* 30 - 65 - Stealth while wearing cloth/leather equipment.
* 65 - 95 - Start to equip studded leather armor.
* 95 - 120 - Don a close helm and start to add ringmail armor.

If you have low hiding and a house a good trick is to walk around inside that. Since you have 100% chance of hiding in your own home you do not have to wait to train stealth due to hiding failures.

Furthermore, when stealth activates the wait time before you can hide again is significantly lowered. Rather then walking until the next natural stealth check, re-hide and then re-stealth again as soon as possible in order to maximise your gain rate.
Furthermore, when stealth activates the wait time before you can hide again is significantly lowered. Rather then walking until the next natural stealth check, re-hide and then re-stealth again as soon as possible in order to maximise your gain rate.
<i>“What is that monster blocking the front door?”<br />
“It’s a dragon. It followed me home. Can I keep it?”</i>

To tame a beast to accept you as master requires patience, nerve and a power of will. The rewards of studying Animal Taming are considered by some to be well worth the time invested. Tamers have long-been considered extremely useful and versatile in fighting monsters and, to a lesser extent, players as well.

Your taming skill (along with Animal Lore) determines the odds of taming a given creature then controlling it. It's furthermore required in order to bond with certain creatures, and also plays a hand in determining your stable slot limit.

In order to tame a creature you must be standing within two tiles of it with no obstructions, then target it with the skill. Once taming has begun you may stray anywhere up to around ten tiles away (<i>not sure on the exact amount</i>) from the target though if it loses sight of you or is injured in any way the attempt will cease.

After a few seconds you'll be notified of either your success or failure.

While most animals are non-hostile and can be tamed at any time, most taming attempts against a monster will instantly fail. In this case there's no wait time before you can try again so it's best to set a macro and use this over and over as fast as you can until you successfully start the taming process.

Veterinary is a near essential skill for serious tamers in that it is the only method available for resurrecting dead pets.

Training
Training taming is a very slow process in that it can only be improved through active use. It takes several seconds to attempt to tame a creature, and when you succeed you cannot gain off that creature again. In most cases it is best to take this as a starting skill for your character should you wish to use it.

In order to increase the spawn rate of new targets you should release and then kill each as you progress. You may find keeping some of them under you control to help cull the others helps matters.

* 0 - 30: Train at NPC Stable Master
* 30 - 45: Cows and Sheep
* 45 - 60: Hinds and Timber Wolves
** Many wolves spawn near the Huntsman.
* 60 - 75: Walrus and Polar Bears
** Dagger Isle is the best place to tame both of these animals.
* 75 - 85: Snow Leopards and Panthers
** Stay at Dagger Isle, but concentrate on Snow Leopards.
* 85 - 100: Great Harts and White Wolves
** Healer's Grove, north of the Sacrifice Moongate in Ilshenar, is a great place to go.
* 100 - 120: Ridgebacks and Bulls
** The plains of Central Ilshenar, north of Blackthorn's Castle (near the Compassion Moongate), is the best place to find Ridgebacks. A better spot is in the savage camp just south of castle. Put on a dose of savage skin paint and you will find a pen in the bottom of the camp. Two spawn there non-stop. Tame one kill it and another respawn in about 15 seconds. In this spot you won't have to deal with any of the annoying spawn that might interrupt your taming efforts.

The Palace of Paroxysmus is a dungeon located west of the city of Papua in the Lost Lands in both Felucca and Trammel. It was introduced with the Mondain's Legacy expansion. It is a fairly high-level dungeon, consisting of many hard monsters. Several quests from Heartwood will take you here.

Despite the presence of many demonic creatures within this dungeon, and despite the official fiction (as related above) that Chief Paroxysmus is a demon prince, the demon slayer type does not appear to work on him.

In order to gain entry into the Palace of Paroxysmus, must you must have an Acid Proof Rope in your bag.
Lore
The underworld lair of Chief Paroxysmus has been exposed to the surface. Minions and inhabitants of his realm are already seeping out into the world to wreak havoc and feed. Adventurers enter through a huge sinkhole and work their way through twisting passageways, traveling past deformed shapes melted into the stone by the corrosive acids that ooze through the stone cracks and flow in the venomous river to reach the palace proper. The very air of the place is acrid and tainted, making exploration deadly.

As a daemon prince, Chief Paroxysmus has Molochs, Balrons, Arcane Daemons, Succubi and Chaos Daemons under his misshapen thumb. Other lethal creatures simply enjoy the ambiance of his realm and make their homes there. These creatures include: Plague Beast Lords, Plague Beasts, Plague Spawns, Slimes, Poison Elementals, Acid Elementals, and Earth Elementals.

Creatures
* Acid Elemental
* Arcane Daemon
* Balron
* Chaos Daemon
* Chief Paroxysmus
* Corrosive Slime
* Daemon
* Earth Elemental
* Interred Grizzle
* Moloch
* Plague Beast
* Plague Beast Lord
* Plague Beast Spawn
* Poison Elemental
* Putrefier
* Succubus

Points of Interest
* The river that crosses the dungeon is of acid and dangerous.
* The exit to the dungeon (in case you need to leave early) is not where you come in but up some stairs on the right hand side, roughly south west of the Entrance.
* The entrances to the first room, filled with daemons and balrons, are protected by pillars that fill the air with poison.

<B>Tip:</B> You can bypass this room by wading through the shallows of the acid river.
* There is an escort quest in that room: Kodar the Lost Villager
* The acid lake at the end and the river nearby aren't just damaging but insta-death until you have the key for crossing.

<B>Tip:</B> When crossing the river, look carefully and try to walk across it where there are 'stepping stones'.
* The cauldron for brewing the special slimy ointment is on the pillar next to the lake.
* Paroxysmus's lair is on an island in the middle of the lake. To get to the island you have to first rub the special slimy ointment upon yourself, then wade across the lake to the gates. You can't just walk around them, you have to double-click on the gates, which teleports you inside.
* When you exit Paroxysmus's lair via the moongate on his island, you will emerge in a swamp filled with Ophidians.

Summoning Keys
4 keys are needed to Summon Paroxysmus.
* Corrosive Slimes drop the skull, torso, and legs, all of these have countdown timers.
* Putrefier drops the "Spleen of the Putrefier". The spleen is tiny, and a dark colour, so look very carefully. He doesn't always drop it, so you may have to kill him a few times.

Chief Paroxysmus
* In addition to this, see the article on Chief Paroxysmus

* You exchange the keys (see above) for an ointment at the cauldron found in the far southeast of the dungeon.

* Rub it on yourself by double clicking. Then, walk across the acid river (which previously was an insta-death to walk across) to the island to the east of the cauldron, and double click the gate.

* There is Chief Paroxysmus, along with his helpers, which are physically similar to Plague Beasts or Plague Beast Lords. Kill the helpers, then engage the Chief. (Please note how much the Chief resembles Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars.)

* The island is small, take that into account when designing your tactics.

* The fiction suggests that a demon slayer weapon should work on the Chief, but it does not.

* Use cross-healing dexers, mages to heal and cure, and if you have archers it's best to position them close to the dexers, helping the dexers cross heal.

* The usual archer tactics, known as "the archer dance" do not work very well, due to the Chief's ability to teleport archers to him. Archers can work, just not any better than meelee warriors.

* DO NOT USE PETS OR SUMMONS. The Chief will eat them and heal himself up to full, even from being redlined. If you have tamers in your group, have them leave their pets behind and act as mages. Ethereal mounts/charger of the fallen are ok, but Chief Paroxysmus moves quite slowly, so you may get by without. **** Some addtional details about pets. As is known, Paroxysmus will consume any non-ehty pet. Some believe that you may also use a Paroxysmus swamp dragon as a mount and that he will not consume it. This is false, he will consume the dragon and refresh his hp from it if its rider is dmounted or dead.

* Chief Paroxysmus has a lot of health and hits hard. He has a special poison ability that will affect people in a very wide area. Mages should have arch cure up.

* Chief Paroxysmus has the ability to teleport the attacker to himself and in a moment hit the teleported person twice for more than 100 damage per hit, even through a 70 resist suit. Needless to say people die from this treatment.

* As special loot, he spawns his beer cup (no I'm not kidding, it seems to be just decorative), his lard (one of the more important Ingredients), his swamp dragon (rare, bonds instantly), his Scepter (Scepter of the Chief, a mace artifact), 3 more deco - Paroxysmus's Dinner (rabbit on fire), Strings of Paroxysmus's Victims, Sweat of Paroxysmus (in a bottle) and of course the fabled Crimson Cincture.

* His Swamp Dragon, like the Grizzled Mare and the "imprisoned" creatures that have changeling abilities, can be dispelled, despite the fact that Publish 40 was supposed to fix this "known issue."
