The Hag's Assistant is a classic quest that is located South East of the Grove of Love. To complete this quest, you will need a shovel or a pickaxe.

Find the imp that has killed the apprentice, which was easy as it was just up the road.

Next you must kill 3 Imps to find out were he is. My suggestion would be the Hedge Maze, as it is quick, simple, and close.
After that, you are given a map and a flute. I've only done this quest once but for me it was at Moonglow, near the NPC Astronomer. If it is in the same place, it was located inside the house (took me a while to figure that one out).
Finally you receive the piece of paper that the Hag is after, but if you think that was time consuming, wait there's more.
You now must get an ingredient for her. The first are Toad's legs, which is easy. Simply visit Britain sewers and kill 5 Giant Toads.
Go to a graveyard (Moonglow is the easiest) and kill 5 Spectres and Ghouls to obtain the quest item, Spirit Essence.
Next, use the shovel or pick axe you brought with you and dig on the graves for bones.
After that, simply return to the Hag.
