i test it a bit and seem you can't use just 3 trapped boxes to gain, everytime you attemp succesfully your action on a trapped chest you remove forever the trap from the box.
so or this metod don't work or we need more information.

When a container is Magic Lock'd, attempting to open it will hit you with a trap. Can you gain off such items?

nope, the Magic Lock spell just lock the container, it don't add any trap. Maybe you mean Magic Trap but it don't work aswell, when you try to remove the trap from the box you got always this message "That doesn't appear to be trapped." (tested with 35 / 54 / 80 / 100 /120 magery and 48.1 remove trap).
