UOGuide:About

UOGuide was founded to fulfill the need for a website containing readily available and up-to-date information about Ultima Online. Through community contributions, it is hoped that this site will grow into a well kept repository of game play knowledge.

Goals

  • To acquire and maintain statistical information on gameplay and items.
  • To archive historical material on Ultima Online.
  • To keep pace with current changes and events.
  • Longterm: To become the largest information site devoted to Ultima Online.

History

UOGuide was conceptualized and built by JCtheBuilder in mid-June 2006.

It received many notes of support during its initial days, but a few weeks after launch there was a server failure which wiped out the database and seemed to spell disaster for the site. Fortunately, approximately 2 weeks later the site was back online.

At this time the UO wiki site UOStuff announced its intentions to expand into the same area as UOGuide. Rather than compete with an already established wiki, it was decided to halt all efforts on building UOGuide. By early September, 2006, it was clear UOStuff was not living up to its expansion claims, and thus it was decided to relaunch UOGuide near the end of September.(Main article: UOGuide v. UOStuff)

In the fall and early winter of 2006 the site grew rapidly. Major sections on Veteran Rewards, Cooperative Collections, Halloween 2006, Holiday 2006, and Kingdom Reborn had been added. By the end of the year, UOGuide was closing in on 400 content pages.

In early 2007, several future Sysops began concerted contributions to the site, and UOGuide began a long surge in content over the following year. Major sections added and worked on in 2007 included Animals, Monsters, Five on Friday, Client Patches, Publishes, and Artifacts, with many other minor sections also being uploaded.

UOGuide currently sits at 7,994 content pages.
