Gargoyle's powerful wings carry them over land as fast as a galloping horse and grant them access to special Gargoyle-only areas.
Flying is a racial ability of the Gargoyle Race as part of the Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss expansion. It allows those playing Gargoyles to access the areas reachable only by flying in Ter Mur, the homeland of the Gargoyles.
Flying makes it possible for Gargoyles to move at a speed equal to being mounted, or the equivalent being double the usual walking pace of Humans and Elves. There is also a brief "warm-up" time, ostensibly the Gargoyle unfurling it's wings or taking off, prior to being able to move at flying speed.
