Shields are large, flat, often round objects that are equipped in a character's left hand slot and designed to block hits from opponents via the Parrying skill. Shields are meant to be both an offensive and defensive item - defensive by blocking hits and possessing resistances and offensive by allowing a character more time and area to strike by deflecting incoming blows.
Shields can be crafted by blacksmiths and carpenters alike. Some artifact shields come with prodigious modifications. Reward shields from the New Player Quests are blessed. Shields are item set pieces, quest rewards, and EM Event items.
Shields used to spawn with the item property Hit Chance Increase (HCI), but no longer. Therefore, HCI shields now offered by player vendors command high prices indeed.
