Infectious Strike is a special move that was added during the Age of Shadows expansion in 2003.

Effects

This move took the place of poisoning all types of weapons with Publish 46. Only weapons that possess the Infectious Strike move can be poisoned. Unlike most special moves, tactics is not required to use Infectious Strike since it already requires poisoning skill to be effective. Targets are no longer poisoned based on chance; a successful hit is all that is required.

No skill in Poisoning is required, but a Level 1 poison is the best that can be achieved. The greater the Poisoning skill of the wielder, the better chance they have of inflicting a higher level of poison on a target. The formula is one-for-one (i.e., attackers have a (poisoning skill)% chance to increase the level of poison delivered by 1. The power of the poison depends on the type of poison applied to the weapon in question and a character's poisoning skill, as follows:

  • 00.0 - 19.9: Level 1 (lesser), with a chance for Level 2 (regular)
  • 20.0 - 39.9: Level 2, with a chance for Level 3 (greater)
  • 40.0 - 59.9: Level 3, with a chance for Level 4 (deadly)
  • 60.0 - 100: Level 4, with a chance for Level 5 (lethal).

Poisoning a weapon no longer causes it to corrode. This move causes a slight karma loss when successfully poisoning a victim.

Primary weapons

Weapons with a primary ability of Infectious Strike require 70 or higher in the appropriate fighting skill and 30 or higher in tactics.

Secondary weapons

Weapons with a secondary ability of Infectious Strike require 90 or higher in the appropriate fighting skill and 60 or higher in tactics.

Publishes

  • Publish 46 (10 Aug 2007): Weapon Special Moves now require Weapon Skill and Tactics of appropriate skill levels. (i.e., 70 in each skill for primary weapon special moves, 90 in each skill for secondary weapon special moves). Exceptions to the Tactics requirement are the following: Infectious Strike since it already requires Poisoning skill to be effective.
  • Publish 45 (25 May 2007): The Poisoning skill will now have a chance to rise whenever a player successfully poisons a victim while using the special maneuvers: Infecting Strike and Serpent Arrow. Higher skill levels will require the use of higher level poisons in order to have a chance to gain.
Infecting Strike and Serpent Arrow will now cause a slight karma loss when successfully poisoning a victim with these special maneuvers.
  • Ultima Online: Age of Shadows (11 Feb 2003): Added.
