UO holds various sorts of metal, the most common ones can be mined using the Mining profession using a Shovel or Pickaxe. Doing so produces Ore which can be smelted into Ingots at a forge, or at a Fire Beetle.

Resources
At 100 Skill you are able to occasionally find rare Gems, these can be used to make magical items. You can also mine High Quality Granite, with the proper research.
