Stand before a tree and gaze upward. Do you see leaves? Jagged limbs? Branches? The skilled lumberjack may gaze at the same tree and see buildings and towers and finely carved wooden goods.

As your skill improves, your chance of successfully harvesting wood from a given tree increases. Melisande's Corroded Hatchet is the only item in the game that will raise your Lumberjacking skill when equipped. This skill also counts towards your ability to perform Special Moves.

Human characters will get one extra log per chop, or two if working in Felucca. Elves, on the other hand, have an increased chance of harvesting special Lumber types.

Abilities

  • Get Lumber and other resources from trees.

Training

There are two methods to gain lumberjacking.

Method 1

Chop trees.

Method 2

Attack creatures with an axe. This will require either the Swordsmanship skill or a weapon with the Use Best Weapon Skill property. The most efficient way to gain is to get a 100% Poison Damage axe and hit a Golem (For more tips on using the Golem method visit the Melee Training Guide page). You can also use Spellweaving's Dryad Allure on an Arctic Ogre Lord to give it the same treatment.

Types Of Wood

There are various different types of wood which grant different bonuses to items crafted by Carpenters as well as Bowyers. Each requires a different skill level to harvest.

When wood is collected, it initially comes in log form (weighing two stones instead of the single stone a board weighs). A carpentry tool can be used to perform the conversion, though this is optional - raw logs work just as well for crafting as boards do, they simply weigh more.

Note that the skill levels required to harvest logs and/or convert them to boards differ from those crafters require to create other items. Lumberjacks can use Carpentry tools with their own skill level instead for the purpose of creating boards (and boards only).

The skill levels a Lumberjack requires to collect/convert each type of board are:
