Crafting is a term that refers to a character creating items that are related specific skills, ingredients , and tools used to create them. There are four(4) basic purposes to crafting: Armor & clothing, Weapons, furniture, and Consumables such as food or potions. Basic items can be crafted with the crafting skill's main Resources and the correct Tools for the profession.

Crafting Skills
| Alchemy | Blacksmithy | Carpentry | Cartography | Cooking | Bowcraft & Fletching | Inscription | Tailoring | Tinkering | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Primary Resources | Reagents and Empty Bottle | Metal | Wood | Blank Scroll and Reagents | Food | Wood | Blank Scroll | Cloth and Leather | Metal and Wood |
| Secondary Resources | Peerless Regeant | Cloth, Wood, Peerless | Metal, Cloth, Skills, Peerless | Crafted and purchased items | Oven, Water | Peerless, Gem | Rune | Peerless | Gems, Cloth, Skills, Bulk Order Deed Rewards |
Gathering Skills
Resources for these crafts are normally gained by using a related "Gathering" skill:
- Anglers for Cooking and is done using a Fishing Pole. The skill is located in the "Wild" section of skills
- Lumberjacks for Carpentry, Fletching, and Tinkering by using any type of axe on any tree.
- Miners for Blacksmithing and Tinkering by using a pickaxe or shovel on a mountain or cave floor. Mining has three (3) subcategories of skills:
- Mining for Quality Stone is done through reading a book purchased from the Stone Crafter in Ter Mur's Royal City. It is activated through a context menu by clicking on the a Pickaxe or Shovel and selecting an option for mining granite.
- Find Glass-Quality Sand is done through reading a book purchased from the Alchemist in Ter Mur's Royal City. It is automatically done by using a pickaxe or shovel on a sandy area of the main action screen.
- Mining for Quality Gems is done through reading a book purchased from the Blacksmith in Ter Mur's Royal City. It is automatically done by using a pickaxe or shovel when digging for ore.
Craftable Artifacts
There are advanced items that may require a recipe to learn, and some that need Peerless Regeant allowing them to make "Crafted Artifact," such as:
- Scrapper's Compendium for Inscription; and
- Cold Forged Blade for Blacksmithing.
Secondary Skills
There are three(3) subcategories of crafting that require buying a book to use from the appropriate vendor in Ter Mur. Those vendors are also the only source for the tool required to use the two of those crafts.
- Masonry is under Carpentry and requires a Mallet and Chisel and uses the Granite from the Quality Stone book.
- Glassblowing is under Alchemy and requires a Blow Pipe and uses the Sand from the Glass-quality book.
- Basket Weaving is under Tinkering and requires a Tinker's Tools.
Intermediate Crafting
There are Skills, Tools, and Items that can enhance crafting to increase the quality and function of Gear crafted.
Skills
- Arms Lore increases the "Damage Increase" quality of Exceptional crafted Weapons and the amount of Resists for crafted Armor.
- Imbuing allows adding specific Item Properties based upon gear type.
Tools
- Runic Tools are used to create an enhanced version of any crafted Gear; the properties added will be random. However, a Runic Tool can be used with the Imbuing skill near a Soulforge to Reforge an existing item at the expense of using additional charges of the tool, and can give some control of the type of Item Properties added.
Items
- Armor refinement is done to change the resists of Armor either to increase the Max Resists for the Player wearing it at the cost of lowering Defence Chance Increase or, to raise DCI at the cost of lowering Max Resists for the player wearing it.
- Whetstone of Enervation is used to remove the Damage Increase property from an Exceptional crafted item, which removes the Imbue weight of the property and frees up the slot, since only 5 properties can be on gear unless it's Loot from a monster.
- Powder of Fortification is used to increase the current and maximum durability of an item by 10 for each charge.
- Forged Metal Of Artifacts is used to guarantee success on Enhancement and is only available in the UO Store.
Advanced Crafting
This is a basic breakdown of the process. Crafted verse purchased gear: Crafted items of Exceptonal Quality have a higher Imbue Weight cap than non-exceptional/purchased items, but, they also have properties added to them that use some of that added Imbue Weight. Notes for Armor:

- Leather are made with Spined Leather giving +9 Physical Resist.
- Metal are made with Gold Ingots giving +2 Resists to Physical and Fire, and +3 Resists to Cold and Energy. Zero (0) Resist bonus for Poison.
- Enhancing is the last step, and risks breaking the item based upon success checks against the Resists that are being added to the armor.
- For Leather, lower Physical Resist at crafting = higher success at Enhancing.

Notes for Weapons:
- Elemental Weapons:
- Elemental Damage is not an "Item Property" that counts toward Imbued item count, but it cannot be imbued either, it has to be Crafted with a Runic tool, or Reforged using a Runic Tool.
- If you want the Damage Increase property, it is increase to 40% when the weapon is created with GM Arms Lore.
- Durability and Lower Requirements are Item Properties that count against Imbues; enhance last.
- Metal are made with Gold Ingots giving +2 Resists to Physical and Fire, and +3 Resists to Cold and Energy. Zero (0) Resist bonus for Poison.

- For Metal, there are more resists being checked against, but, they are smaller numbers meaning success has a better chance with more moderate starting resists; pick a piece with higher Poison to make up for lack of enhancement, and to increase chances at successful enhancement.
Uncrafting
- Scissors can be used on most items made of Cloth or Leather and return half of the material used to craft it.
- The Blacksmithing menu has an option at the bottom labeled "Smelt Item" that can be used to destroy an item and return half of the ingots used to make that item.
- An exception to this is that NPC purchased items will only give back 1 ingot.
- Carpentry and Tinkering created items can not be uncrafted in this way.
- A Salvage Bag can be purchased from a Provisioner NPC to automatically uncraft Tailor and/or Blacksmith crafted items, if you have the necessary tool to do so.
Publish 106 changes
Starting with Publish 106, new recipes call for rare artifacts as ingredients to create new items. There is an argument that, without adding additional properties to the newly created items, this should just be a "new skin" for the old artifact (commonly called a "transmog"). With this publish, the Crimson Cincture and Leurocian's Mempo of Fortune are ingredients for the Crimson Belts (Crimson Mace Belt, Crimson Sword Belt, and Crimson Dagger Belt) and the Elegant Collar of Fortune, respectively.
Furthermore, items previously used only in Imbuing (such as the Fey Wings) are called upon as ingredients. Items with no discernible use, like the Lodestone, are also being added to the ingredients list.
