This creature does not appear in nature; rather, it is created by the Necromancer’s art of using the Animate Dead spell. The Skeletal Steed is the result of a slain mount, raised and twisted to do the Necromancer’s bidding. This foul beast is resistant to magic, though, incapable of using magic itself. It can be ridden, or fight alone with both intelligence and strength: a fearsome mount for the fell forces of evil!
The duration of the skeletal steed depends on the strength of the creature being animated. Higher end mounts, such as a Nightmare, will create a Hellsteed, which is much more powerful.
Bedlam's Monstrous Interred Grizzle, sometimes drops as loot, an instantly bonded steed called: a Grizzled Mare.
